FITDOG Pack Walks
A group of dog handlers go for a walk together in a structured environment. Walking together and enjoy nature with other dog lovers.

It is a training session not a time for your dog to meet other dogs.

There is no interaction between dogs.

Just as with any other training session your dogs focus is on you!

What to Bring: High Value Treat and/or Toy, a 6' non-flex leash, poop bags

Each Date will have 2 options and will be approximately one hour

FitDog - loose leash casual walk learning neutrality to new places, people and things. Each walk counts toward AKC FitDog titles

Therapy dogs interact with the public, there are a few boxes that potential therapy dogs need to check before earning the therapy dog title!

Friendly – The most obvious trait is that the dog is friendly. They must prefer to lick rather than bite. They need to be OK with being handled by strangers (in all areas of the body) and never snap at a human. You will not always be able to control the way people handle your dog, but you need to be able to control your dog!
Confident – The dog must be okay with new experiences, new smells and most of all, new people. A scared dog is a recipe for disaster. People often confuse a scared dog for an aggressive dog.
Quiet – We love it when our dogs show excitement when we come home, but yelping and howling are not OK for a therapy dog. They might be asked to “speak” on command, but it is better for them to be cool and quiet.
Explorative – The dog should love to explore their surroundings and not be upset to leave home.
Disciplined – Whilst the dog will be receiving therapy dog training, its important that they already have a baseline of discipline, that they are comfortable with receiving commands and believe that they are part of the pack. This also ties into believing that you are an authority.
Healthy and Vaccinated – As the dog will be interacting in all manner of new places, it is important to ensure that they are fully vaccinated, healthy and fixed.

Communication

The key to any dog training is the relationship that is built over time with the owner. Learn how to build trust and communicate effectively with your dog so they look to you for guidance.

Canine Good Citizen Testing

AKC CGC program (Canine Good Citizen, CGC Advance, CGC Urban) helps set the goal of having a well behaved dog. In a new environment , to strange noises ,new people, strange dogs. It's not about the ribbons and the titles it's about having a dog that you can do things with that you both enjoy.

Bonding Time

Bonding is a life-long process with your dog. Your dog will listen better, trust you more, and forgive you quicker when you accidentally step on their paw if your bond is strong.

Socialization

Providing real life obedience and exposure training that will lead to a calm and confident dog that is comfortable in any surrounding and therefore able to focus on you!

Neutrality is actually a state of being calm and relaxed; neither excited nor fearful. It allows them to think clearly, respond to it appropriately, make good decisions and listen to you when you ask.
